Janice Mirikitani Family, Youth and Childcare Center

A Good Idea

Description

The Janice Mirikitani Family, Youth and Childcare Center (FYCC) provides an environment for children and families to realize their potential at home, in school, and as leaders in their community. Services provided include licensed early childhood education, afterschool programming, homework help and tutoring, parent education, cooking and nutrition classes, basic needs assistance, and early literacy learning. Parents are engaged as partners in helping children's growth and development. Teachers keep parents up to date on their children's progress and behavior to maintain consistency between learning environments. Free or low-cost childcare for low-income families also helps parents maintain employment and financial stability.

Goal / Mission

The Janice Mirikitani Family, Youth and Childcare Center provides award winning childcare, after-school programs, and parenting resources to low-income and homeless families.

Results / Accomplishments

In 2010, The Janice Mirikitani Family, Youth and Childcare Center was voted #1 in childcare in SF Gate's Best of the Bay list. The program provides 2,420 hours of licensed childcare each year. In addition, 94% of parents agreed that they have a better understanding of their child's growth and development as a result of the FYCC
